Disney World's Pleasure Island lodges permits for change

It was two years ago that Walt Disney World signalled change at Pleasure Island when they announced that the nightclubs of the district would be replaced with more family friendly venues.

At long last Disney has got into gear and lodged permits to signal the start of new construction at Pleasure Island.

The current set up at Downtown Disney with family friendly attractions and restaurants at either end, but joined together by an adult entertainment zone has never really made much sense and anything to put this right is a bonus.

Since the announcement two years ago, very little has happened so far, but Disney has said in the past that it expects to complete its redevelopment of Pleasure Island by 2012.

Disney goes all pink

Disney's newest cruise liner, Disney Dream has come over all pink and bubbly...

Designers are installing a cocktail bar, aptly named Pink, which is apparently inspired by French champagne. Pink’s decor is to feature glass “bubbles” that are back lit and inset into the walls throughout the room. The light fittings and shades are designed to look like champagne flutes and the bar feature wall includes a display made to resemble a popping effervescent bottle of pink bubbly!

Designed with adults in mind, Pink is the romantic bolt-hole for Moms and Dads lucky enough to get rid of the kids for a while.

Disney Dream is earmarked to set sail in January 2011.

911 panic call

The new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride encountered a glitch last night which caused it to stop midway through the journey. As most theme park goers will know, this is not an uncommon occurence aboard any ride.
However, one guest aboard the Potter ride last night decided that this was an emergency worthy of a 911 call!
The lunatic called out the police and fire brigade to attend which they duly did. C'mon you fool! 911 for a stuck simulator ride? The glitch turned out to be nothing serious and all riders made it off - not before the police and fire brigade had been called away from other duties.
My message to the 911 caller - stay off the rides if you are going to panic every time they encounter a glitch!
